TELUS technology put to work connecting team of healthcare providers with clients

BURNABY, B.C. (Wednesday, July 10, 2013) – TELUS is stepping forward as the premier presenting partner of Fortius Sport & Health, putting its technology to work in connecting the project’s healthcare providers with their clients.

Situated in Burnaby, Fortius Sport & Health is a new $61-million philanthropic project committed to changing lives through sport and exercise medicine.

More than a decade ago, TELUS made a defining decision to put its world-class innovation and technology to work tackling the challenges facing Canada’s healthcare system.  TELUS has since become Canada’s largest healthcare information and communications technology provider.

“Our passion is to drive healthcare transformation for the good of our country and Canadians through the use of advanced communications technology,” said Josh Blair, TELUS Chief Corporate Officer. “We are pleased to be partnering with Fortius Sport & Health, putting our healthcare technology to work supporting their effort to change lives and improve our health through sport and exercise medicine.”

Through the partnership, TELUS’ electronic medical record and personal health record technologies will connect Fortius’ multi-disciplinary healthcare provider team and their clients in a seamless manner to enable ongoing, coordinated health services at work, at home and on-the-go. The technology will allow practitioners to collaborate on the same client – no matter their age or level of ability – in a manner similar to the model of care offered to Olympians or professional athletes.

“The best partnerships are built on common goals, shared interests and synergistic capabilities; all of which apply to our relationship with TELUS,” said Scott Cousens, Founder & Chair of Fortius Sport & Health. “We’re committed to helping transform lives on the strength of the most efficient and effective integration of sport and exercise medicine expertise.  With the support of TELUS as our premier presenting partner, our capacity to effect change through the promotion of integrated, collaborative and innovative care is significantly enhanced.”

In addition to serving as the lead corporate partner of Fortius Sport & Health, TELUS will as also be the presenting partner of Fortius Kids, a series of on-site, online and community outreach programs that are being developed to create positive sport experiences for active youth.

“TELUS Health empowers people to more effectively manage their health and the health of their families,” said Paul Lepage, President of TELUS Health.  “Our healthcare technologies are designed to foster greater collaboration across the healthcare continuum, and to ultimately turn information into better health outcomes for all Canadians. We are pleased to bring our health technology solutions to an area of health and wellness that includes sports and exercise medicine, for youth and sports enthusiasts of all ages.”

“Our partnership with TELUS will positively impact all of our programs and services, in the short term and over the long-term,” said Lynda Cannell, Chief Operating Officer for Fortius Sport & Health. “Our collaboration with TELUS will not only enhance the Fortius Experience inside our flagship facility, it will help extend our reach into the community, throughout the province and across the country. That reach outside of our facility is of course the key to our long-term vision and our work to bring the best practices of sport & exercise medicine to Canadians of all ages and levels of sport and active living.”
